Catherine Taddo is feeling blue, but she couldn't be happier.
The Thunder Bay native, who joined forces with versatile guitarist Lindsay Pugh in 2003, now includes blues-based material in her intimate gigs. "When I sing the blues I get inspired. You can put a lot of feeling into the music," said the Sir Winston Churchill High School graduate.
"The genre seems to go with my vocal style. I tend to have a deep voice which I think is fun to play around with." A pair of tracks, This Way and Let Me Be, are signs of this new direction. "Lindsay is an excellent blues player," said Taddo. "It's great to take advantage of his talents."
A regular performer at several Sault Ste. Marie nightspots, Taddo's setlists can get audiences dancing. More introspective material touches on love, love gone wrong, friendship and living life to the fullest. "Some of my songs are more energy driven," said the Lakehead University graduate. "Others are more thought provoking and get people thinking about their message."
Her music has been aired on several radio stations including CBC Radio One in Sudbury and CFQK in Thunder Bay.
Taddo returned to Northwestern Ontario in 2004 with appearances at Thundering Women Festival and the Red Rock Music Festival. The shows were her first in the area since 1998. She wants to be back soon.
Taddo's first full-length album is
due in 2005.
